JOB PURPOSE: The Fleet Equipment Specialist supports the Operations team in managing a fleet of over 800 tractor trailers to maintain efficient operation, meet Praxair safety standards and remain in compliance with all governing regulations.

SCOPE: Across multiple locations and regions of a Business Unit, the Fleet Equipment Specialist is responsible for the technical specifications for tractors, trailers, delivery pumping systems, and delivery metering systems. Provides technical support to field operations to resolve equipment component issues and develops standard maintenance and operating procedures for mobile equipment. Coordinates trailer rehab and major repair programs

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: This position reports up through the National Planning and Logistics Group.

LOCATION: Praxair's Global Technical Center (Tonawanda, NY), Burr Ridge, IL or The Woodlands, TX.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Works closely with the Procurement group during equipment selection and in the purchase of services and parts to identify items that will provide lowest total cost of ownership.

  • Is knowledgeable and informed of DOT and trucking industry regulations and trends so changes can be managed proactively. Also maintains an active presence on external industry councils.

  • Works closely with the Central Distribution Logistics Center and Field Operations to identify and manage cost reduction opportunities (fuel expense/efficiency, etc.);

  • Identifies, develops and implements innovative operation and maintenance programs to optimize operation of the existing fleet.

  • Coordinates repair of equipment with field operations, logistics, and suppliers and manages related expense and capital work order budgets.

Qualifications

  • 10 years of trucking industry experience

  • 5 years of Distribution or Operations experience

  • Familiarity with DOT Hazmat regulations

  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite productsTravel Requirements:>20%
