IT Technical Leader

Description

This role supportsPraxair Distribution, Inc. (PDI), a Praxair business that delivers welding, cutting, specialty and medical gases in cylinders, small cryogenic containers and mini-bulk, beverage carbonation services and dry ice, technical expertise and hardgoods to customers in the U.S. and Canada. The IT Technical Leader position ispart of a North American-based business Information Technology team focused on research, deployment, and support of new and existing IT technologies as defined by our senior management team.

SCOPE:

Initial projects are:

  1. Credit card processing (Verifone) for point-of-sale order transactions

  2. Managing deployment of handheld computers for cylinder tracking and truck deliveries

  3. Oracle / AVAYA phone call management tool

Must have technical experience with the following:

  • point-of-sale credit card solutions (Verifone),

  • handheld computing (Honeywell/Intermec experience is a plus),

  • general deskside and network technologies,

  • Mobile technologies: iPhone / Android

  • Understanding of ERP systems (Oracle JD Edwards is a plus)

Candidate will work hands-on at various locations in the greater Houston area. Some travel beyond Houston may be required (10%). Candidate will be work closely with business teams to understand their work processes and recommend/apply appropriate IT solutions.

Candidate must also be able to manage external vendors and internal customers to meet project deliverables. Lastly, they will provide support for the applications and related hardware to ensure continuous operation.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Act as IT liaison to the business and should be able to validate, document and organize business requirements that will drive technical design solutions.

  • Lead small to medium IT projects – could grow to large, nationwide project if experienced. Responsibilities include leading activities in requirements definition, fit/gap analysis, project scoping, solution design, global model governance, change management, training development and internal implementation consulting.

  • Manage and support IT technologies associated with credit card processing for U.S. and Canad

  • Assist in deployment and support of mobile handheld computers and related programs for cylinder tracking and deliveries

  • Assist locations in resolving issues with local IT systems including JD Edwards, deskside equipment and networking/telecommunication systems

  • Requires experience in directing work and building relationships with people at a variety of levels.

  • Some travel (10%) domestically and internationally will be required, (may increase during project initiatives).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5-10 years of work experience in an IT role

  • Degree in an IT-related discipline or Management Information Systems is a strong plus

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

  • Project management skills (with certification such as PMP is a plus)

  • Leadership & collaboration abilities

  • Business Functional / Work Process Expertise

PREFERRED IT EXPERIENCE:

Experience with Merchant services and Verifone for credit card processing; VHQ software
