Our HyCO business supplies hydrogen and carbon monoxide to a variety of customers in the oil refining and chemical industry for various end uses.

The Global Hydrogen division of Praxair, Inc. is currently seeking a Mechanical Intern in Port Arthur / Sulphur area. The applicants must be either currently enrolled in a course of study pursuing an Associate’s Degree in the mechanical field or anequivalent Tech certification.

Basic Function:

  • The Mechanical Intern will be working directly under the Praxair’s mechanical technicians and the maintenance superintendent. The position will be required to assist technicians as they perform a variety of daily tasks. The candidate is expected to be an active participant in work activities as required of them. There will be limited travel to support our facilities in Sulphur, Westlake and Carlyss La.

  • Effectively communicate with operators, technicians, engineers, and managers

  • Adhere to all Corporate and Plant Policies

  • Maintain the highest degree of personal safety and environmental accountability at all times

  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping

  • Participate in daily and monthly safety and production meetings

  • Strong mechanical aptitude

  • Willingness to progress into a mechanical position.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance

  • Ability to work from heights

  • Gain an understand and purpose of documentation such as EAM/Procal, work orders, service reports and equipment records as required by Praxair's maintenance database system.

  • Work schedule will be coordinated with the candidate’s school requirements.

Duties:

  • The successful candidate will assist the Praxair Technicians in the following tasks;

  • Performs a wide variety of skilled mechanic duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and modify mechanical equipment and facilities.

  • Uses a wide variety of hand, power, and machine tools to perform assignments.

  • Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical equipment and systems requiring the isolation of the malfunction, disassembly of equipment and repair/replacement of bearings, gears, structural components, etc.

  • Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and mechanical systems.

  • Specific responsibilities include: Safely troubleshoot, repair, and maintain all rotating equipment and associated mechanical systems including compressors, pumps, fans, blowers, boiler systems, valves and the ability to perform equipment alignments.

  • Plan and execute maintenance tasks, and completion of all follow-up documentation.

  • Complete some repairs of mechanical piping systems including threaded and welded pipe systems.

  • Complete and document maintenance activities associated with predictive and corrective maintenance activities in a computerize maintenance database.

  • Ensure spare parts are available or replaced when used/installed.

  • Maintain a high degree of personal safety and environmental awareness at all times.

  • Required to climb ladders, stairways and operate man-lifts for elevated instrumentation and control valve maintenance.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Working towards Associates in a mechanical field or equivalent Tech school.

  • Working knowledge of a variety of mechanical tools such as torque wrenches, Hydraulic tensioning equipment, Vibration monitoring equipment, general hand tools ect.

  • Understands basic P&ID's diagrams.

  • Strong organization and planning skills.

  • Strong computer skills.

  • Written and oral communication skills
