Corporate Process Safety Manager - Air Separation (Location = Flexible)


Flexible with regard to location for this position (including global).


Under general supervision of the Corporate Process Safety and Emergency Response Director, develop and execute process safety programs and interventionsto improve process safety performance with air separation technologies.

The successful candidate willbe an experienced, senior engineer with a broad background in air separation technology and atmospheric gases. This position must understand the technology, engineering, design, equipment, standards, operations, and maintenance of the atmospheric gas business line. The candidate must be able to function independently and apply engineering judgment and decision making with minimum supervision. Must have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and have a demonstrated ability to comfortably and diplomatically interact with others worldwide and lead global and multi-discipline teams. The candidate must be able to develop goals and objectives and communicate/execute project delivery for engineering and business projects. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize work while developing multiple programs simultaneously. Must use independent judgment and discretion in problem-solving and decision making and excellent organization skills with attention to detail to manage work flow in a timely manner.


  • Recognized as an expert in air separation technology and process safety.

  • Demonstrates global leadership in technology, processing, and safety.

  • Represents Praxair to industry groups, customers, regulators, and other stakeholders

  • Participates in global assessments to ensure process safety performance is maintained. Develops focused and global improvement plans to close identified gaps

  • Considers global impact of decisions. Establishes a global network of contacts, both internal and external.

  • Advises senior business and other technical leaders

  • Provides support to global businesses and regions in technical issues, staffing, and business matters

  • Approve Tier 1 incident reviews for OOC review and ensure global implementation of action plans to close identified gaps

  • Working competency in general process safety and their connection to a comprehensive process safety program (HIRA, MoC, PSI, SOP, PSSR, FSS, Audit, etc.)

  • Leads teams in making complex and/or controversial decisions. Empowers others to make decisions.

  • Coaches, teaches, and mentors others throughout Praxair and industry

  • Develop and maintain global Praxair technical and administrative standards that impact process safety.

  • Monitors internal and external global process safety performance in air separation technology. Develops action plans to address identified gaps or emerging issues.

  • Maintains global awareness of research, trends or industry developments that may impact process safety.

  • Supports and directs process safety aspects for first-of-a-kind projects and solves unprecedented process safety/engineering problems.

  • Makes decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative and that have an important impact on extensive engineering and business activities.

  • Demonstrates exceptional judgment and strategy in leading others in establishing safety priorities that support business strategy through the life cycle of facilities in the global fleet.

  • Acts as a Change Agent by taking ownership of issues and influencing the broader Praxair organization.

  • Shapes global Praxair perspectives based on knowledge of emerging techniques, regulations, standards, and recognized and generally accepted good engineering practices.

  • Serves as expert resource for other engineers and managers and maintains a thorough knowledge of established and emerging technologies.

  • May be responsible for enabling new technologies by leading cross functional teams to evaluate technology and impacts to process safety and gaining support across technical organizations and from business groups.

  • May participate on business development teams in securing new business by providing input into process safety, technology, and impacts to risk profile of new business.

  • Will direct activities over multiple geographic regions, businesses, and functions for a variety of engineering and business initiatives or activities.

  • Initiates and maintains contacts with key engineers and officials of other organizations and companies

  • Participates and Influences emerging Industry standards, regulations, and requirements requiring skilled persuasion and negotiation of critical issues

  • Considers and evaluates differences in business, culture, political and social environment, market competition, and future market direction in multi-national environments.

  • Champions new ideas.


  • Bachelors degree in Engineering required.

  • Masters degree and professional engineering licensure is desired.

  • 20 yrs of various experiences in design, operations, reliability, management, and process safety.
