Strategic Account Manager, Western Canada

As a Praxair Canada Inc, Strategic Account Manager, you will have the responsibility to grow sales revenues and profits with a key group of customers. With a background in sales, account and contract management, you will work with existing National Accounts and look for opportunities to grow both existing and new national accounts by supplying them with industrial gases and equipment. This position will be based in Calgary, AB.


  • Promote sales, introduce the organization's programs and provide account service to assigned and potential customers

  • Focus on personal sales targets, new business development, maintaining customer relationships and troubleshooting problems

  • Work to grow sales revenues and profits, gain new strategic opportunities and meet sales targets

  • Develop plans for each account, incorporating fully developed customer needs, including long and short term goals and tactics, determine pricing and maximize revenue

  • Maintain and increase existing revenue stream

  • In the process of doing business with the customers, develop knowledge and collect data on the account's business, products, processes, growth opportunities and customers, to better understand general market and specific customer needs

  • Maintain coordination and communication with other groups such as marketing, customer service, etc. to ensure that the account strategies are aligned with available resources and market objectives

  • Understand the value of the Company's products and application technology in developing pricing recommendations

  • Thoroughly understand and communicate Praxair’s product supply agreements regarding terms and conditions, liability issues and compensation on commercial issues

  • Mitigate liability and risk when entering into contracts and pricing agreements

  • Apply in-depth product and technical knowledge to solve problems for current and potential customers

  • Interpret external business issues and recommend best practices

  • Develop models to address specific sales needs and problems

  • Present findings and make recommendations to internal and/or external clients

  • Manage day-to-day relationships of existing customers

  • Find and develop contracts with new customers

  • Communicate supply and demand changes both externally and internally, specifically to billing, logistics, operations and distribution groups

  • Develop monthly demand forecasts

  • Analyze business fundamentals

  • Adopt and incorporate strategy changes into your day-to-day business with customers

  • Travel to customer sites and offices to attend in person meetings

  • An experienced sales professional who has managed a portfolio of 30 or more customers of varying sizes and sophistication

  • Self-motivated and enjoy developing new business

  • Capable of working independently and in a team environment

  • An exceptional speaker and communicator with all levels of the organization

  • As comfortable in the boardroom as you are in the field

  • Focused on solving customer challenges

  • Interested in making a difference

And if you have:

  • 5 years’ experience selling industrial products to same or similar customers

  • A thorough knowledge of sales and business principles, such as account development, negotiations, and presentations

  • Exceptional client relationship skills.

  • A post-secondary degree in business, sciences or engineering would be considered an asset

  • Contacts and established relationships with industrial customer base

  • A track record of delivering results individually and as part of a team

  • The ability to travel through out western Canada to see your customers [25% travel]
