Praxair Distribution, Inc., a subsidiary of Praxair, Inc., a Fortune 300 company that supplies atmospheric, process, specialty gases, high-performance coatings, and related services & technologies is seeking an Production Chemist to join our team in Bethlehem, PA.

The Production Chemist is responsible for operating the production processes located at Bethlehem, PA. Operation to be performed in a safe manner following all GMP medical gas procedures, OSHA PSM procedures, EPA BMP procedures and Corporate Safety policies and procedures.

Under the routine direction of supervision, operator will be responsible for or expected to:

  • Work autonomously with occasional supervisory review

  • Operate manufacturing fill processes under GMP conditions for medical fill operations

  • Maintain compliance with all external regulatory agencies including FDA GMP, DOT, EPA, OSHA, DHS, as well as all Praxiar policies and procedures

  • Processes medical and industrial gas cylinders using established plant guidelines and procedures

  • Maintain empty and full cylinder quantities, styles and product, and fill any necessary product

  • Operate and maintain process equipment

  • Interface with maintenance technicians and vendors associated with fill equipment

  • Be able to engage any resources needed to handle safe startup, shutdown, and resolution of abnormal situations for the filling processes

  • Oversee a variety of complex operations and duties in a productions environment

  • Operate equipment and provide recommendations for performance improvements

  • Maintain facility efficiency by maximizing operating conditions at all times

  • Performs visual and physical tests on each cylinder before filling and determines whether retesting and/or repairs are required

  • Assist facility in supporting process training efforts and environmental compliance documentation

  • Complete and maintains quality control documentation as per company and Governmental procedures

  • Order all necessary parts and spares to keep the Plant in operational order

  • Facilitate Plant shut downs and communicate in advance any anticipated down time for departments throughout the Plant

  • Support safety and quality departments by ensuring all employees comply with safety requirements including following established safety protocols, turning in all required safety and quality training materials and signatures as assigned, weekly, quarterly or annually

  • Other duties as assigned


  • 4 year technical degree with emphasis on chemistry and math or equivalent work or industry experience

  • Able to read, write legibly, perform basic math functions and posses mechanical aptitude

  • Must be in good physical condition and able to roll 200 lb cylinders and lift 50lbs

  • Able to work in indoor and outdoor conditions throughout the year

  • Able to work flexible hours (2-3 hours of starting and quitting times)
