Productivity Specialist

Description

Job Purpose: Lead a portfolio of 8 - 10 active medium to large Lean Six Sigma projects of varying complexity. Identify and prioritize productivity projects within the Air Separation (bulk atmospheric gases), CO2 and Standard Plants within the Production, Distribution and Business Value Streams. Conduct value stream mapping of current operational processes, identify waste, and implement process improvements. Monitor atmospheric gases production KPIs and identify causes of variance.

Scope:This position requires a self-motivated individual who is expected to function at a high level with limited supervision. Responsible for the leadership of black belt projects and oversight of green and gray belt projects which are broad in nature, often across multiple sites. Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of productivity methodology and processes. Act as a resource for the application of advanced productivity tools and discipline. Overcome resistance to change. Achieve productivity benefit goals by skillfully implementing productivity projects. Work well with and learn from stakeholders at various levels, in particular, Senior Engineering and Operations Directors/Managers to align and drive initiatives for a large foot-print of ASU plants and CAPOC and DAPOC pipeline systems in the Central North Region. Utilize learnings and system interdependencies to improve plant KPIs, identify cost reduction/capital project opportunities, and increase plant profitability.

Reporting Relationships:This position reports to a Central North and South Productivity Manager and is primarily an individual contributor role in productivity with no direct reports. Will train and coach junior level productivity professionals and green / gray belts on large/complex projects. Will lead project teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Typical annual Productivity Savings Target is approximately 8 to 12 times base salary.

  • Provides productivity support to all plants under Central North Operations, e.g. Calumet, IN area, Ecorse, MI area, Inver Grove Heights, MN area plants.

  • Solves complex problems; takes broad perspective to identify innovative solutions, in particular, for CAPOC and DAPOC systems as a whole.

  • Develops conclusions from data / process analyses, applies results, and presents findings.

  • Continuously builds and demonstrates technical proficiency in the air separation focus area and is able to apply these skills to identify and execute productivity opportunities.

  • Facilitates idea generation through collaborative efforts (e.g. brainstorming, lean events, and stakeholder engagement).

  • Understands strategic direction of business unit or division and implements action plans to meet the needs of the business and key stakeholders

  • Establishes a strong leadership presence with project team(s).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required (preferably chemical or mechanical engineering).

  • 5 years of combined air separation production and project management experience, and demonstrated leadership skills preferred.

  • Strong analytical skills, interpersonal skills and the ability to influence required.

  • Experience in applying statistical principles preferred.

  • Green Belt training or certification preferred.

  • Must be willing to travel at least 25% - 35%.

  • Must be willing to relocate to the Burr Ridge, IL office or East Chicago, IN facility.
